Main Street in Mount Gilead was a crowd of red- and pink-clad residents visiting local shops participating in the annual Galentine’s celebration. Participating businesses included AmberLynn’s, Sew Happy, Cotton & Wood, Frames on Main, Memory Lane, the Thrifty Pickle, Speckled Paw Coffee, and Thistle Ridge Soap. Two food trucks, Everything Rolled and Big D’s Mini Donuts, fed attendees.
Shoppers got a paper with the participating businesses’ names and visited each to collect a stamp, initials, or other indication that they stopped in, looked around, and said hi. Shoppers wrote their names and phone numbers on the back of the paper, and those who visited all eight businesses were entered to win a raffle for a prize basket containing gifts from each shop.
The stores were decked out in Valentine’s Day decor, with hearts as the centerpiece of many shops. The Fairy Hair Godmother did “Fairy Hair” at Cotton & Wood, adding a little sparkle to shoppers’ hair. The parking area between Thrifty Pickle and Sew Happy had picnic benches below string lights for hungry shoppers to sit at while they munched on eggrolls and donuts. The back patio of Speckled Paw Coffee had a cozy atmosphere for people to relax, chat, and enjoy their food and drinks in the beautiful night air.
